Ideas for home lunches!

School. Lunch. I remember going years at a time asking my mom to pack me a lunch for school. Bless her heart, she never complained!! How she did that, I'll never know because I think packing lunches is the worst. hahah!! But kids gotta eat right? So we do it anyway! Anyway, I have experimented with my kids for years about what they like and will eat and what they won't. And even with different containers to pack them in! So with each suggestion below I have even linked containers that will make your sandwich packing easier!

And side note, this does not include the elementary school kids opinions that LOOOOVE something one week and refuse to eat it ever again the next week. Ahem, staring at multiple of my children...

I have compiled a list of all the lunches I do, and added several from some of my followers over on  INSTAGRAM. I am going to keep adding to this list over time, and as I come across new ideas! So make sure you pin this on Pinterest so you can check back often! Aaaand here we go!

 1. Let's get this obvious one out of the way.. SANDWICHES. But there are so many varieties! Consider THESE CONTAINERS  or THESE if you will have more than just a sandwich packed. That way they won't get smooshed.

  • Meat/cheese
  • PB and J
  • PB and banana
  • PB and Nutella
  • Cheese and Mayo- a couple of my kids love this option..
  • Chicken salad
  • Egg Salad
  • Veggie- Lettuce, tomato, cucumber, peppers, etc. Whatever they will eat
  • BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato)
2. Homemade lunchables! My kids love the variety this gives! THESE CONTAINERS are a great option for this lunch. I mean, there are a million combinations of meats, cheese, and crackers you can give them! Then add some fruit, veggies, and a treat (if you want) and they are good to go! I usually add some type of yogurt in there too. Try THESE COLD PACKS to stick in their lunch box to keep them cold. Here are some ideas for combinations you could try below!
  • pretzels, sliced string cheese, rolled up slice of ham, Apple slices, Gogurt, cookies.
  • Wheat thins, Sliced cheddar cheese, slice of turkey rolled up, grapes, gogurt, fruit snacks.
  • Fishie crackers, beef jerky, string cheese, orange, yogurt, granola bar in THIS CONTAINER.
You really could come up with numerous varieties depending on what your child prefers!

3. Cold pizza
4. Mac n' cheese- consider THESE CONTAINERS to keep it warm.
5. Soup and crackers- There are some great containers for this! Try something like THIS. And here are some ideas for some kid friendly soups and sides.
  • Chili and fritos
  • chicken noodle soup, and soda crackers
  • Tomato soup, grilled cheese or oyster crackers
6. Any sandwich variety, BUT roll it in a tortilla and slice it like sushi! THESE CONTAINERS are awesome for this!
7. Chicken nuggets- stored in THESE CONTAINERS, add a fruit or veggie, and you're good!
8. Quesadillas- you could do these with cheese, and then with or without meat in them! Send them in the keep-warm containers!
9. leftovers, warmed up and packed in the keep warm containers.
10. fruit and yogurt parfait- Using THIS or THIS, pack your yogurt, fruit, granola, etc.
11. Bagel or flat bread pizza- plain bagel/flat bread, pizza sauce, shredded cheese, and mini pepperonis.
12. Hummus wrap!

The side dishes are ENDLESS, but here are some to get you started! Any type of fruit or veggie, cheese stick, crackers, granola bar, frozen fruit (Someone said they freeze fresh fruit to put in a lunch box and it's mostly thawed by the time lunch rolls around!), fig bar, nuts, seeds, fried rice, yogurt, chips, dried fruit.

There you go! And like I said before, I will definitely be adding to this list for all of our benefits as I brainstorm more ideas! If you have more ideas, feel free to comment below and I will add them to the list!

Happy packing!
xoxo, Sharee

  1. If you are planning to make a simple stir-fry for dinner, make a little bit more than you will need, and use the left over's for your child's lunch box. Sprinkled with soya sauce, it will have reached room temperature by the time your child eats it, and it will be tasty. lunch containers
